Name: Erin Kahn
When did you start running and why? I started running three years ago, in the summer of 2013. I was motivated to begin running after seeing a friend complete the New York City Half Marathon. I was fascinated by all the different people who finished the race, and thought, “If they can do it, I can too.”
I went to Fleet Feet soon after to be fitted for running shoes….but it took several months for me to actually take them out of the box and have the nerve to hit the road! When I finally did, I decided I wanted to train for my first 5k.
What’s your motivation for staying active? I enjoy the way it makes me feel both physically and mentally, and I like setting and attaining personal goals.
What’s your favorite thing about running? I have a few favorite things about running.
Having brunch with friends after races or long training runs is the first thing that came to my mind!
With respect to the “running” part, I like the fact that although I may be in a race along-side thousands of other people, I’m only ever competing against myself.
I also like that you can run anywhere. All you need are your shoes and the road- or a treadmill!
What training program(s) did you do with Fleet Feet Hoboken? No- Boundaries 5k Program, 5 Mile Program, Half Marathon Program
Why did you decide to join the Fleet Feet training group? I discovered the group coincidentally when I was beginning to run and train on my own for my first 5k. I went to the introductory meeting and was hooked.
The coaches were so friendly and motivating, and I thought it would be great to train with a group of new runners like me.
What hurdle are you the proudest of overcoming? Finally taking those running shoes out of the box and taking the first step…which led to thousands of more steps, running with new friends, running with old friends, and last fall, crossing the finish line of the New York City Marathon.
What is the one thing at Fleet Feet that is a “must have” for you? Brooks Adrenaline Running Shoes
Running goals for the future? I am training for the Chicago Marathon, but after that I think I may generally stick to shorter distances…although as they say, never say never! My main goal is just to “keep running.”
What’s your favorite thing about Fleet Feet or their training groups? The coaches are amazing. I would (and do) recommend Fleet Feet (both the store and the training groups) to anyone!
What’s your best piece of advice for new runners? It does not matter how fast or slow you go- just put one foot in front of the other. Create goals for yourself and you will be more likely to stick with it. Know you are doing something great for both your body and mind.
